The COBI Tiger 131 2588 is one of three new versions of the Panzer VI Tiger I and is considered the standard edition. The two other versions, the COBI Panzerkampfwagen Tiger I Ausf. E Executive Edition (2587) and the COBI Limited Edition Tiger I both feature additional pieces and different camouflage schemes. The COBI Panzer VI Tiger No. 131 features a display placard which is pad printed along with all the other markings on the set. There are no stickers or decals on this set as they frustrate brick builders and take away from the experience. The COBI Tiger I Standard Edition is a 1/28 Scale brick tank that is 12.4″ long and 4.7″ tall. This set will take up a good bit of room on a display shelf and can be quite imposing. Some of the length is attributed to its scale realistic main gun which moves up and down but features enough friction to hold its position as desired for display.

The COBI 1/28 Tiger 131 is a brick replica of the famous Tiger 131 captured by the British on the 24th of April 1943 due to its German tank crew abandoning it after a round from a British Churchill tank immobilized the turret. The tank’s thick armor had  previously repulsed at least one anti tank round by a British soldier defending against a German onslaught. The story of the capture is riveting and well worth a read via Wikipedia’s page dedicated to the Tiger 131 here.
In short, it was believed to have been captured at Djebel Djaffa in Tunisia, but in 2019, it was revealed to have been captured at Point 174. Tiger 131 is now preserved at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England, where it is the only operational Tiger I in the world. The tank returned to the museum in 2003 with a working engine after restoration work. It was featured in the 2014 film “Fury.” Tiger 131 is a popular exhibit at the museum, attracting many visitors.
