IS-3 History:

The IS-3, also known as Object 703, is a Soviet heavy tank developed in late 1944. Its semi-hemispherical cast turret and pike nose design made it a distinctive post-war Soviet tank. While it arrived too late to see combat in World War II, the IS-3 participated in various conflicts, such as the Soviet invasion of Hungary and the Prague Spring. The tank was later modernized as the IS-3M in the 1960s.

Several countries operated the IS-3, including Egypt, Georgia, Poland, Hungary, and North Korea. Surviving IS-3 tanks can be found in museums around the world, including the Military Museum Lešany in the Czech Republic, the IDF Armored Corps Museum in Israel, and the Victory Park in Ulyanovsk, Russia.

The COBI IS-3’s combat history includes being used as fixed pillboxes along the Soviet-Chinese border and in engagements during the Soviet invasion of Hungary. Despite its formidable armor, the IS-3 faced challenges with its slow rate of fire, engine performance, and fire control systems. However, some IS-3 tanks were captured and reused in conflicts, such as during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine.
