COBI Kubus Winnie History:

Kubuś, which translates to “Little Jacob” in Polish, was an improvised fighting vehicle utilized by the Home Army during the harrowing Warsaw Uprising of World War II. This singular vehicle was clandestinely constructed to serve as both an armored car and an armored personnel carrier for the Home Army’s assaults. Despite its valiant efforts, Kubuś sustained damage and was ultimately abandoned after just two weeks of service during the intense conflict. Remarkably, the original Kubuś vehicle survived the war and now stands as a testament to the bravery and ingenuity of the resistance fighters. It is prominently displayed in the Polish Army Museum, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the Warsaw Uprising. Additionally, a full-scale replica of Kubuś was meticulously crafted for the Warsaw Uprising Museum, where it regularly participates in various open-air festivals and reenactment shows, preserving the memory of this remarkable vehicle and its role in history.

The designation “Kubuś” was chosen as a tribute to the wife of one of the constructors, referred to as Globus. Tragically, she lost her life in early August. She had adopted the pseudonym “Kubuś,” which translates to “Little Jacob” in Polish. Additionally, “Kubuś” is a familiar name in Poland associated with Winnie the Pooh. This choice of name not only honored her memory but also reflected a sense of familiarity and endearment, encapsulating the spirit of resilience and camaraderie among the resistance fighters.
