Soviet T34 History:

The T-34, a Soviet medium tank, had a profound and lasting effect on the field of tank design. At its introduction in 1940, the T-34 possessed an unprecedented combination of firepower, mobility, protection and ruggedness. Its 76.2 mm (3 in) high-velocity tank gun provided a substantial increase in firepower over any of its contemporaries while its well-sloped armour was difficult to penetrate by most contemporary anti-tank weapons. The 60 degree sloped armor and Christie suspension were inherited from the design of American Walter Christie’s M1928 tank, versions of which were sold turret-less to the Red Army and documented as “farm tractors”, after being rejected by the U.S. Army.  When it was first encountered in 1941, German general Paul Ludwig Ewald von Kleist called it “the finest tank in the world” and Heinz Guderian affirmed the T-34’s “vast superiority” over existing German armour of the period. “As early as July 1941 OKW chief Alfred Jodl noted in his war diary the surprise at this new and thus unknown wunder-armament being unleashed against the German assault divisions.” . Although its armour and armament were surpassed later in the war, it has been often credited to have been the most influential tank design of the Second World War.

The T-34 was the mainstay of Soviet armoured forces throughout the Second World War. Its general specifications remained nearly unchanged until late 1944, when it received a major upgrade to firepower and ergonomics with the introduction of the greatly improved T-34/85 variant. Despite this, its production method had been continuously refined to meet the constantly increasing needs of the Eastern Front, making the T-34 quicker and cheaper to produce. Soviet industry would eventually produce over 80,000 T-34s of all variants, allowing steadily greater numbers to be fielded while the war progressed despite the loss of tens of thousands of them in combat against the German Wehrmacht. Replacing many light and medium tanks in Red Army service, it was the most-produced tank of the war, as well as the second most produced tank of all time (after its successor, the T-54/55series). At 44,900 losses during the war, it also suffered the most tank losses of all time

Top notch set and a VERY cool piece. I am 51yo and have been building Legos my whole life, however I was always bummed they refused to make weapons as sets. This T34 looks great sitting next to my Cobi Tiger. I have purchased and built 6 Cobi sets (F4UF Corsair, Zero, Tiger, T34, Schwimiwagen, Kubelwagen) and each one has been great. Very accurate, very well made, no complaints. I will keep buying and building these Cobi sets until I run out of room!

This is a great model with a good building process for COBI standards. Overall it looks amazing

  3. Chris (verified owner)

The T-34/85 from is an amazing build. It looks much better than on the box and the tracks run better than any other set I own. The problem is with as good as these tanks are, that I keep wanted to get another tank.
