Panther Ausf. G  History:

The Panther tank is a German medium tank of World War II. It was used on the Eastern and Western Fronts from mid-1943 to the end of the war in May 1943 until 1945.

The Panther was intended to counter the Soviet T-34 medium tank and to replace the Panzer III and Panzer IV. Nevertheless, it served alongside the Panzer IV and the heavier Tiger I until the end of the war. It is considered one of the best tanks of World War II for its excellent firepower, protection and mobility although its reliability in early times were less impressive.

The Panther was a compromise. While having essentially the same Maybach V12 petrol (690 hp) engine as the Tiger I, it had more effective frontal hull armour,[9] better gun penetration, was lighter and faster, and could traverse rough terrain better than the Tiger I. The trade-off was weaker side armour, which made it vulnerable to flanking fire. The Panther proved to be effective in open country and long-range engagements.

The Panther was far cheaper to produce than the Tiger I. Key elements of the Panther design, such as its armour, transmission, and final drive, were simplifications made to improve production rates and address raw material shortages. Despite this the overall design remain described by some as “overengineered”. The Panther was rushed into combat at the Battle of Kursk in the summer of 1943 despite numerous unresolved technical problems, leading to high losses due to mechanical failure. Most design flaws were rectified by late 1943 and early 1944, though the bombing of production plants, increasing shortages of high-quality alloys for critical components, shortage of fuel and training space, and the declining quality of crews all impacted the tank’s effectiveness.

Though officially classified as a medium tank, at 44.8 metric tons it was closer to a heavy tank weight and the same category as the American M26 Pershing (41.7 tons), British Churchill (40.7 tons) and the Soviet IS-2 (46 tons) heavy tanks. The tank had a very high power-to-weight ratio, making it highly mobile despite its weight which caused logistical problems, such as an inability to cross certain bridges.

I will update the review when I finish the set.
This is an amazing set, with accurate details and silhouettes. Although there are some issues (exposed lfp studs, exposed mg port) they’re easily fixable. However, I am missing many parts. This is obviously a problem on COBI’s end, but I am still a little sad. I wasn’t even able to finish bag 1 before being unable to progress. I checked the instruction manual many times and my room, with no parts found. I am missing a couple #95191s, a few #86037s, and a #114361s. I am unable to find these parts in beige/tan/Dunkelgelb on the COBI website. Can someone send me a link?
In conclusion, this is a good set that I definitely recommend. It also will get to you very fast, and the shipping upgrades are affordable. I will definitely order from Warbricks again, I just hope that all the parts are there lol.

This was a great build. Model has great detail, tracks run smooth and access to the engine compartment is a neat design feature. My only pick of this model is the hull gun piece looks like an afterthought with it just stuck on top of the glacis. Would have been nice to be flush with the rest of the front plate.

Just finished building this kit. Looks great. As someone mentioned the hull gun looks like an afterthought. I think this kit looks better without the skirts so l had extra pieces. I was able to do a modification using them. I did have to cut one piece using a hacksaw blade. The hull gun is now flush and looks more realistic. Warbricks were awesome to deal with. This model was out of stock and l was able to get on a list to be notified when it was back in stock. It was nice not having to keep checking to see if it was back in stock.

I love the more rounded shape of the turret and the side skirts. A nice improvement from the old model (the first edition of the Pudel). My only criticism is that the lower front of the tank could have been designed a little better.

Excellent build! COBI Keeps getting better and better with each new mode. Have been building them for 4+ years and very pleased. Love the extra detail of the engine compartment and ammo storage.

  6. Larry (verified owner)

Overall a very good build. The improvements in the turret and shaping and new details in the engine are a great improvement! However, this kit still be improved in regards to the machine gun bump and the shaping of the lower plate is rather lackluster. Still, its a relatively great rendition of an iconic tank in 1:28 scale!

Yeah I’m very interested in this model but the lower haul could use some plates, the actual gun mount is kind of weird, but I’m looking into the set. Cobi does need to make this more available to the U.S.A. It’s hard for me to get my hands on these awesome sets, but the shipping price kills me. This site has no shipping costs if above $50 so this helps. I’m hoping to buy some Cobi products from this site.
