KV-1 History:

The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tanks are a series of Soviet heavy tanks named after the Soviet defence commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov who operated with the Red Army during World War II. The KV tanks were known for their heavy armour protection during the early stages of the war, especially during the first year of the German invasion of the Soviet Union. In certain situations, even a single KV-1 or KV-2 supported by infantry could halt German formations. The German Wehrmacht at that time rarely deployed its tanks against KVs, as their own armament was too poor to deal with the “Russischer Koloss” – “Russian Colossus”.

The KV tanks were practically immune to the 3.7 cm KwK 36 and howitzer-like, short-barreled 7.5 cm KwK 37 guns mounted, respectively, on the early Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks fielded by the invading German forces. Until the Germans developed more effective guns, the KV-1 was invulnerable to almost any German weapon except the 8.8 cm Flak gun.

Prior to the start of Operation Barbarossa in June 1941, about 500 of the over 22,000 tanks then in Soviet service were of the KV-1 type. As the war progressed, it became evident that there was little sense in producing the expensive KV tanks, as the T-34 medium tank performed better (or at least equally well) in all practical respects. In fact the only advantage the KV had over the T-34/76 was its larger and roomier three-man turret. Later in the war, the KV series became a base for the development of the IS (Iosif Stalin) series of tanks and self-propelled guns.

Excellent build. Took me about 3 hours in two sessions. Found it a fun and creative build. Instructions were easy to follow and intuitive. I actually enjoyed it more than the T-34/85 build. Recommended for any tank or history nut.

Really enjoy Cobi branded products from WW1 and WW2. Very high quality. I would say they are equal to quality of Lego brand bricks. I do enjoy putting together Cobi branded tanks and learning about them when I work on them. This item was back ordered when I ordered it. No big deal as I did receive it after Warbricks got it in stock. a few weeks later. I was aware it would take time to get it in stock.

The product came in quickly and without incident. I requested for the tank to be packaged in a way that the box would not be damaged during shipping and they completely fulfilled my request. I have not built this particular tank yet but I am sure it will be amazing just like the rest of the COBI products I own. First time customer and can’t wait to order more from here.

Really recommend this one! Enjoyed it more than the previous KV-2. The wheels are way less painful than in that one.

Once again a Cobi build that genuinely has zero content for the compliant file. Yes, I might be partial to Cobi being the best in the brick assembly business, but I have no issue with that. I do not necessarily find myself down about the other guy who gets all the big money pop culture franchise licensing deals. However, brick for brick, Cobi is superior in price for what you get, providing excellent fit & finish, & building strategy to the point me thinks Cobi has better instruction methods, & simply produces the stuff I’m into. The other guy is good at what they do, however, they do not do historic, if not epic, tanks, planes & ships like Cobi does…which makes Cobi far more appealing to an audience the other guy doesn’t hit.

As for this rendition of the KV-1 Russian Heavy Armor, I say, “Oh Boy!”, what a build! This thing was a seriously pay attention to the instructions experience. I enjoyed the time I had constructing what has become a very fulfilling finished product! As stated in the opening sentence, there is no down side for getting this Cobi Set. Even the price is more reasonable compared to a few tank of similar numbered pieces that requires a few more bucks to acquire.

If you are considering this tank, I encourage you to go for it! It will not disappoint. With three engine hatches with stuff inside, it’s clever suspension detail, plus among other things one of the easiest tread assemblies, it’s a winner on all counts. Besides, it just looks great sitting next to the Russian T-34/85 (Set 2542). The KV-1 is one of several Cobi Tank Sets I’d put into the the proverbial “No Brainer” category. Me really, really likey this one!

If I had to make a critical remark about this particular tank I’d be pondering it a long time with a sense of futility. This is one very cool piece of Cobi tech & panache! There is nothing I find dissatisfying about it. Five Stars flying proudly over this one is well deserved. Good Job Team Cobi!
