HMS Belfast Light Cruiser  History:

HMS Belfast is a Town-class light cruiser that was built for the Royal Navy. She is now permanently moored as a museum ship on the River Thames in London and is operated by the Imperial War Museum.

Construction of Belfast, the first ship in the Royal Navy to be named after the capital city of Northern Ireland and one of ten Town-class cruisers, began in December 1936. She was launched on St Patrick’s Day 1938. Commissioned in early August 1939 shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, Belfast was initially part of the British naval blockade against Germany. In November 1939, Belfast struck a German mine and, in spite of fears that she would be scrapped, spent more than two years undergoing extensive repairs. Belfast returned to action in November 1942 with improved firepower, radar equipment, and armour.

Belfast saw action escorting Arctic convoys to the Soviet Union during 1943 and in December 1943 played an important role in the Battle of North Cape, assisting in the destruction of the German warship Scharnhorst. In June 1944, Belfast took part in Operation Overlord supporting the Normandy landings. In June 1945, she was redeployed to the Far East to join the British Pacific Fleet, arriving shortly before the end of the Second World War. Belfast saw further combat action in 1950–52 during the Korean War and underwent an extensive modernisation between 1956 and 1959. A number of further overseas commissions followed before she entered reserve in 1963.

According to the Imperial War Museum:

“HMS Belfast is the most significant surviving Second World War Royal Navy warship. Since her launch over 82 years ago, she fired some of the first shots at the D-Day landings, served in the Arctic Convoys, and in the Korean War”.

I had a very pleasant experience purchasing this set from Warbricks. I got it at a great price, it arrived quickly and was packaged well. Very satisfied overall! I bought this set to give as a Christmas gift to someone who loves building Cobi battleships and had it in their wish list. I will def be buying more sets from Warbricks.

solid model and great customer experience with warbricks! only reason for four stars is lack window details on bridge pieces make this model stand out as less detailed compared to the other cobi ships in my collection. otherwise a great build as always !

  7. tylerbw (verified owner)

This is another wonderful Cobi ship and a fun build. It’s also good to get another smaller allied ship. Warbricks is always great with pricing and shipping.

  8. mbwellstx (verified owner)

This was extremely fun to put together. I really like how the smaller ship looks against the backdrop of the larger ones. COBI really needs more smaller ships like this or some destroyers. The camo look along the hull really makes it stand out against the gray, red, and black of others.

  9. Neutral5 (verified owner)

Like all the sets I’ve built so far, this one was had easy-to-read instructions, and was overall fun to piece together. The only complaint I have with this set is that two pieces used for the 6-inch guns come off easily.

  10. Chis B (verified owner)

Another great model and fun build!
One warning: The instructions have you building the left & the right walls at the same time. Combined with the camouflage pattern and the grayed out previous steps this can be a challenge.

  11. Luke Harris (verified owner)

First non battleship set that I’ve gotten. Took some time to build which is expected given how it’s 1517 pieces and is overall a good set.

  12. arw086 (verified owner)

Another great set from Cobi! It fits nicely with the battleships that I have built previously. Also, another wonderful experience with Warbricks.

  13. Jordan FitzGerald (verified owner)

Fantastic product and fantastic service from War Bricks. This was my 4th Cobi set overall, and I love them more and more each time.

  14. zekintha25 (verified owner)

The model is another great build from Cobi and War Bricks. Instructions were easy to follow, and I enjoyed the number of pieces in the set to create a more realistic, detailed model. I like how Cobi creates custom pieces and pad prints vs. stickers. I’ve built several Cobi ships, tanks and other AFVs, aircraft, vehicles, and a train engine, and have yet t o be disappointed.
